On October 30, at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, we joined the side event “Re-imagining Nature with the Nature Tech Collective,” hosted by Nature Tech Collective and the World Climate Foundation.
Our President, Salvatore Coppola-Finegan, was invited as a panelist for the session “Driving Policy and Action for a Nature-Positive Future.” This discussion addressed policy and advocacy for nature-positive outcomes on an international scale, focusing on regulatory frameworks that accelerate conservation and restoration.
Salvatore underscored the importance of establishing a stable, coherent environmental roadmap for 2025–2029 through a National Accounting System. He also stressed the need to align future policies with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).
“We need a global governance approach for environmental cooperation.” At EcoCitizen, we advocated for robust multi-sector collaboration.
Another key point was the need for harmonizing legislation across Europe, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The discussion highlighted that “there is still a significant disconnect between top-down policies from the Global North and the level of implementation in the Global South.”
The session also featured Gregg Brill from The Pacific Institute and Regina Cervera from C Minds.
Gregg Brill pointed out that corporate involvement in biodiversity policies is also a responsibility: “By supporting biodiversity, businesses help create resilient ecosystems that support their long-term success and a thriving planet.”
For EcoCitizen, taking part in these spaces is essential for building synergies and exploring the importance of effective, multi-level collaboration. COP16 allows us to advance our mission to unite forces toward a sustainable future and strengthened international governance.
