EcoCitizen Offsite in Santa Maria de Dota, Costa Rica: Charging our batteries!

As part of the visit to our team in Costa Rica, Adriana Gonzalez, CEO of EcoCitizen, led our Offsite meeting in Santa Maria de Dota, a region renowned for its coffee growing tradition. This area is the birthplace of Tarrazú coffee, appreciated worldwide for its flavor, aroma and exceptional quality.

The objective of the visit was to strengthen the integration of the team and offer an opportunity to connect with the culture, history and production processes of the canton, aligned with the principles of sustainable development, a fundamental axis in the work of EcoCitizen.

Our Offsite in Santa Maria de Dota: Integration and Sustainable Development.

The first activity of the day consisted of a tour of the center of the canton, where a historian and neighbor of the community enthusiastically shared the history of Santa María de Dota and its evolution as a reference in Costa Rican coffee culture. During the tour, he highlighted how producers in the area have developed a greater environmental and social awareness, implementing sustainable practices such as the responsible management of resources and waste, the adoption of green technologies and the strengthening of occupational safety.

Also discussed was the growing commitment to sustainable coffee production, a model that responds to the demand of consumers who prioritize products with a lower environmental impact and that guarantee fair conditions for workers in the sector.

For the EcoCitizen team, this experience demonstrated the principles of sustainable development, allowing us to understand how the harmonization between industry, society and the environment is key to sustainable progress.

“Costa Rica is an example to the world that things can be done well: respecting the environment, restoring nature, respecting human dignity, and also offering unique products with great added value to the market. When you drink a cup of Costa Rican coffee, you can be sure that the rights of all the people involved in the value chain are respected, and that you are contributing to a truly sustainable ecological and social model,” said Adriana González, CEO of EcoCitizen.

A cultural journey through history and sustainability.

As part of the tour, our team visited a local coffee shop where we enjoyed a local coffee tasting. During this activity we learned about the history of the establishment and its importance to the community, as well as examples of producers who have implemented innovative initiatives for soil conservation, environmental protection and worker safety as part of their commitment to sustainable development.

Tasting and reflection on social and environmental impact.

The visit not only strengthened us as an international team, but also provided a deep reflection and opportunity to assess the quality of our ongoing projects and our vision for the future. This experience reaffirmed the importance of interdisciplinary diversity within the team, highlighting how each person’s individual skills contribute integrally to EcoCitizen’s objectives.

With recharged batteries and our commitment reaffirmed, we will move forward promoting international learning and research experiences, generating value in the world and opportunities for our team.
