Directeur général d'EcoCitizen Adriana González participated as part of the UNFCCC Expert Team in Ottawa, Canada, to review the Government of Canada climate transparency report under the Changement climatique Paris Agreement.
The visit highlighted the importance of trust, transparency, and accountability in the multilateral climate system. In times when international cooperation faces unprecedented challenges, building trust across nations is essential to tackle global issues like climate change. EcoCitizen emphasized that integrity in international processes is vital to ensure collective progress, while also inspiring action that extends from institutions to communities and individuals.
As part of the technical review, Adriana González examined Canada’s tracking of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the policies and measures reported by the government. The process not only provided insight into Canada’s climate action strategies but also offered the opportunity to better understand the country’s unique history and culture. This marked a significant milestone as these were among the first reports submitted under the Paris Agreement, setting the stage for greater accountability worldwide.
The mission concluded with the successful finalization of the review, carried out in collaboration with colleagues from Estonia, Brazil, Japan, El Salvador, China, and the United Kingdom, under the professional guidance of the UNFCCC Secretariat. The process was also a strong demonstration of world-class female leadership within the climate transparency framework.
EcoCitizen’s participation in Ottawa underscores its commitment to contributing to global climate governance, advancing transparency, and supporting international cooperation as the foundation for effective climate action.
